Teacher: Fiona McAndrew. Is a film-maker and musician who specialises in storytelling through the arts. Trained in the creative industries with an Honours Degree in Animation and a Higher National Certificate in Music, her passion for oral storytelling began when she experienced the art of traditional storytellers in Scotland. After completing a Master's degree in Music Therapy, she has developed workshops to help people express themselves through music (songwriting), and story (storytelling), using creativity and connection as the driving forces.
Introduction
Storytelling is the art of sharing stories. In these workshops we will dive into tradition and folklore, modern narratives and different ways of telling stories. We will listen intently, create our own personal and fiction narratives, and share different kinds of tales. The sessions will mainly focus on conversation and oral practice although other forms of storytelling will be briefly introduced such as writing, visuals, and music.
Level of English recommended: From conversational (intermediate) to advanced.
Objectives
To develop the imagination, curiosity and connection while improving English conversation skills.
Method
Storytelling is an effective technique to learn a language. It uses narratives and stories as a tool to facilitate retention of information, including vocabulary and grammatical structures, doing so in a natural and enjoyable way while enabling to better understand a different culture.
